HRVATSKA ZORA

TITLE: ‘Međimurski fašnik’

DESCRIPTION: The Međimurje region is the northern-est tip of Croatia, and shares much of the merry and lively
dance qualities as other nearby regions. Fašnik … also known as Carnival is a celebration held
before lent where the people of the town gather on the streets to chase away evil spirits from
the year that just ended, bid goodbye to winter, and open their hearts and hopes to the
upcoming spring. The town streets are filled with complete carefree joy, thousands of masks
conceal laughter and merry songs, and dancing is a way to welcome new life.

Posebnost Međimurja jednoglasni su napjevi koji se temelje na srednjovjekovnim
muzickim ljestvicama, a od glazbala se koriste citra, cimbal i violina uz pratnju kojih su se plesali
plesovi u paru. Fasnicki ples – rijec je o obrednome grupnom plesu, svojevrsnom drustvenom
dogadaju vezanom za dane prije pepelnice I korizme.
