CHICAGO, IL, USA:

KUD HRVATSKA BAŠTINA

TITLE: ‘Preko Drave’

DESCRIPTION: The Podravina Croats live in two counties (Sombor and Baranja) along the Drava River. Some archaeologists believe they are indigenous Croats who lived here as early as the time of the Arpadović’s, and that the Drava River saved them from the Turkish invasion. But it is certain that many Croats from Slavonia and Bosnia settled here at the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th centuries, as evidenced by the different dialects spoken in the villages. Their most famous dances include: ‘drmeš’, ‘križanje, ‘kolo’, and ‘udaranje u sare’( this dance was created under Hungarian influence). The performance includes songs and dances from the villages of Lukasvišća, Martinca, and Novo Selo. It is choreographed by Jozsef Szavai and Anna Marie Hosticka; with musical arrangement by Andor Vegh.

Podravski Hrvati žive u dvije županije (Somođ i Baranja) pored rijeke Drave.
